We are relative newcomers to Pemberton, having lived previously in Hyde Park and Clarksville. ..  I retired in 2007 and returned to Austin from San Francisco.  I have enjoyed my leisure time tremendously, but to keep a sound mind and solid body I play occasional tennis, spend time at the “Y”, and attend adult education classes at UT.We  live on Wooldridge Dr.  Between the two of us, my wife and I  have 5 adult children living in California, New York and Florida.  .. I grew up in Mexico, but attended Austin’s St. Stephens Episcopal School for 5 years. I graduated with a B.A. from Stanford followed by a two year stint in the Peace Corps in Chile.  My whole professional career revolved around international banking with postings in NYC, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City, Manila, Madrid, London and San Francisco. My favorite adult beverage depends upon the season.  In the summer it's  gin and in the colder months I choose whiskey.

We have lived on lower Gaston since 1991, first in the stone cottage at 1004 and at 1010 Gaston Ave. since 1994.   We are only the 2ndowners of this 1938 home, formerly occupied by Dr. John Stockton of UT where we steady practice “historic preservation”. We have 3 grown children. My husband grew up in Big Spring and I in San Angelo, but we spent most of our early work lives in the east Texas town of Woodville before beginning our return to Austin. In 1995, I opened The Kinney Company where I served as the Broker for several sales agents until retirement in 2009. I have been on the boards of Preservation Austin and currently serve on the advisory board of the Neill Cochran House Museum. Presently, I work as property manager for residential rental housing, and I continue to maintain a membership in the Austin Board of Realtors as well as Austin Apartment Association. My favorite adult beverage is beer.

I am an architect and with a focus on restoration and historic preservation. I have a M.S. in Historic Preservation from Columbia University, and a B. Arch. from the University of Texas at Austin. My specialty is the repair, maintenance, and conservation of buildings and their materials. I am principal architect for our firm, Volz & Associates, Inc. I have 40+ years of national and Texas professional preservation/architectural experience, including employment with the Texas Historical Commission, The National Trust for Historic Preservation, the U.S. National Park Service (NPS), and private architectural firms. My wife and I have lived in Pemberton 32 years and raised our three children here. I value our neighborhood friendships and the physical qualities that make the neighborhood attractive and livable. I feel privileged to live in Pemberton and hope that by contributing my time and skills as a PHNA board member I can help maintain the quality of life that we all enjoy.
